Meet Laura

Laura Bond is a Full Professor in the Interdisciplinary Studies program at UNC Asheville teaching performing arts and emotional expression. Bond specializes in somatic education and its relationship to evidence-based emotional effector patterns (EEP).

After 20 years of practice-research collaborating with Feldenkrais® method practitioners, and research psychologist Susana Bloch, an original EEP researcher, Laura founded the Emotional Body® method. She develops specialty lessons on restorative modalities, expanding expressive capabilities and somatic resiliency.

She is a contributing author to the Routledge Press book, Trauma and Embodied Healing in Dramatherapy, Theatre and Performance; and the author of two books, The Emotional Body: A Method for Physical Self-Regulation & TEAM For Actors: A Holistic Approach to Embodied Acting.

Laura is a recent recipient of the Ruth Paddison Distinguished Professorship for promoting interdisciplinary connections between fields. During this 3-year term: she trained in the consent-based practice of Theatrical Intimacy Education; earned a Trainers certification in The Kinēsa® Process, a Feldenkrais®-Inspired Movement System for Pain Relief and Heightened Physical, Emotional & Spiritual Wellbeing; and studied Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) methods with the Brown University School of Professional Studies program.
